Art summary of FEBRUARY 2016

In the beginning of february I started officially working as a project assistant at development and tourism in Træna Municipality. It was a busy first couple of weeks with the Træna Winter Festival, during which I caught the flu, which kept me home for a week. The last weeks we arranged a workshop and prepared for another workshop in march. Besides my work as a project assistant I've been considering taking up new projects, and working a little on commissons.

Instagram: Month of the thousands!

I had a pretty nice month on instagram in february with the first picture (the one of Jocundra, the sabertooth), was my very first image with over 1000 likes - a nice little benchmark. Soon after I also reached 1000 followers! Yay! Obviously instagrammers like big cats, so naturally I kept the kitties coming. They're all characters from Shadowtainted, a story I started working on years ago - I've wanted to pick up this project for ages and renew it.

At the end there you can see the beer labels I made for the Træna Winter Festival, and next is  the only picture I made during my week of having the flu.

Panimated (commissions)

I worked on three commissions, an animation, a poster and a logo.

#1: continuation of the werewolf-animation.

This one is chugging along nicely, although progress stopped up completely during the first two-three weeks. I've done 50 out of 80 frames, so it's really not long until this piece is finally done! I think it's starting to look really nice. Also, my Toon Boom trials ran out so I finally went ahead and subscribed. Yay!

#2: Træna-Hawaii-Spelet poster.

This one I did for the local school-play. Did this one fairly quickly. I was also asked to paint a backdrop for the play, but when they asked I had two days to do it, and I had the flu pretty bad at that point. But at least I was able to make this poster.

#3: Logo for the Træna boating association.

This was the last thing I did this month, and one I've been thinking about doing for a while. I ended up with the sketch seen here. It's still a WIP and I'll polish it a little more before it's done.

Panimated (Personal work)

Most of the personal work I've done this month was seen on instagram. I've been writing and thinking more about renewing shadowtainted, but haven't made any art as of yet. I know I said so last month, but maybe you'll see more of this in march ;)
Perhaps worth mentioning is a snappy little video I put together and published the 3rd of february of my trip to Germany with two friends! It's just in my google drive right now, I might have to move it to somewhere permanent eventually.

Project assistant work

We had a super busy few weeks until the 13th of february, which was the last day of the Træna Winter Festival. I was responsible for pretty much everything that had to be printed, including posters, programs, maps, diplomas, beer-labels and welcome-letters. Most of them were edited or compiled versions of things we had made previously, but I still had plenty to do. During the weekend itself I was all over the place doing whatever needed be done - including cleaning cod-liver for a dinner and being a cashier behind the bar. A very busy weekend!

Below are some things I made, including the map and beer labels for the festival. The weekend after the festival we coordinated a workshop (that's what I made the wordcloud for) to map the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities in tourism and industry in Træna. It ended up being a fun, creative workshop, even though pretty much all of us had the flu. The beer was also a great success, and was served with the afforementioned codliver dinner.

And that's what I've busied myself with in february. See you at the end of march!

Art summary of JANUARY 2016

To mark the beginning of this blog, I'm uncovering a new concept: Art summaries!
The goal is to sum up any artsy stuff I've done the past month, on instagram (which should give a good overall look at what occupies me at the moment), in commissions and in my business Panimated - and in my new part-time job in the tourism department in Træna.

JANUARY:

January began a little slow, as I spent the first couple of weeks in Berlin and Trondheim. I didn't bring my computer, but I was able to do some hand-drawing (see instagram). Three weeks in (or so) I started on my new job, but as I still didn't have a contract, I didn't have set hours yet. I've also been learning a new software; Toon boom, which have slowed down animation production a little. Even though Toon Boom is great, I've learned that I propably should raise the prices of my animation commission because they just take so much time to do... Overall it started out slow, and I'm picking up pace for february.

Instagram in January 2016

Instagram was a little all over the place in january, and I didn't even make anything "worthy" of deviantArt this month. The first two are christmas-presents for my sister and brother from december. The sheep was to test out some new markers I got for christmas. Then I practiced drawing some chunky ladies and bears, then some bodybuilder-women for the big Lexi-commission I'm working on (more on that below).  I was also commissioned by a friend to design a tattoo of a bumblebee, and the last one is a doodle of a  character from "shadowtainted" (more on that below, too)

Panimated (Commissions)

As seen on instagram I finished the bumblebee tattoo design for a friend. I've also been working on a big animation commission for an online client, which I call the "Lexi-commission". This piece features a girl called Lexi, who transforms into a werewolf. It's very complex and a unusual concept to me, but I'm it's certainly a learning experience. It's also my first proper animation in the software Toon Boom, which I'm just now learning. In january I worked on the keyframes and refining the movement of her different bodyparts.

Lexi Commission in mid-january, as 14 rough keys drawn in photoshop.

And a week later,  now with 28 frames, cleaned up and colour-coded in toon boom.

At this point I took a break for two weeks, as the deal was that half of it would be paid up-front, and the rest after the sketch had been finished. Next I will start working on the line-art.

Panimated (personal work)

January has been dominated by commissions and work, so I haven't been prioritizing personal work. However, I've been playing with the idea of bringing my story "The Shadowtainted" back into production. I've been doing some writing and drawing, but I'd like to save that content for later. As it is february now that I'm writing this blogpost, I know you will certainly see more about this in next months summary!

Work

I just started working at my new part-time job as an assistant at Træna municipality's development/tourism department. We work with tourism and cultural development, and help start up new concepts and basically do marketing for the local community. I mostly help out doing whatever needs be done, translating texts from norwegian to english, updating the website and if there is an event, I help rigging - and sometimes I design posters, signs and brochures. There is a big winter-festival coming up in february, so that's what we've been focusing on now. Art-wise I've made two posters, number on is the announcement-poster for the winter-festival, the second is the announcement of the children's winter festival.

That's all for january. See you at the end of february!
